About Technical and Professional Communication (TPC)

The Technical and Professional Communication Major prepares students for positions as writers, editors, page layout designers, and web designers in a variety of industries. The major involves 57 semester hours in specific technical communication courses.

The TPC program was originally founded by Professor Sandi Harner in 1985 as a minor in the Language and Literature Department. The minor was called professional writing. In 1992, professional writing became a major, and in 1999, the name was changed to technical and professional communication.
