MORTENSEN'S LISTENING LISTS

This listening list is intended for academic purposes. It functions as a reference collection. All recordings represented have been purchased, and are in the possession of, either the Centennial Library or a member of the music faculty. Every good faith effort has been undertaken to ensure that these recordings are made available under the provisions of Fair Use.

All users must agree not to make or keep permanent copies of these files; that would constitute copyright infringement, which is a crime. Therefore, using these files to create compact disc copies is illegal. It is also illegal to download them into a portable listening device, such as an mp3 player. They should be used only at computers on the campus of Cedarville University which are connected to Cedarnet.

A specific set of pieces is assigned to each class level. Throughout the year the student is to listen, observing the printed score when possible, and write concise, intelligent remarks concerning matters of interpretation and technique. These remarks must be turned in at the end of each semester, and must be typed. One half of each list must be completed by the end of each semester. In other words, freshmen must complete one half of the freshman list by the end of fall semester, and the rest of the freshman list by the end of spring. The student may use his discretion, if he has any, in determining which pieces to choose in making up each half.

Students must work on the list throughout the semester. Therefore the written comments must be handed in as four “installments” on September 30, October 31, November 30, and December 17. Approximately one-fourth of the semester's listening work (that it, one-eighth of the entire year's assignment) must be completed by each of these dates.
