Applied Saxophone Study
Cedarville University

Attendance Policy:

Attendance for all of your lessons is required, and plays a part in your final grade. If you must miss a lesson, and you know in advance, first try to switch your lesson time with that of another student in the studio (a schedule of all lesson times will be posted on the office door). If you cannot find another time, contact me and we will work out an alternate time. If your absence is unexcused, and you have failed to make prior arrangements, your grade will drop half a letter (i.e., from an "A" to an "A-.")

Attendance is also required at all saxophone recitals. You need to be there to encourage and support your fellow saxophonists. The grading policy mentioned above applies here as well.

Lessons:

Please come prepared each week with something to play. If we have finished working on one piece, bring a new one. Please bring a notebook (to keep track of lesson notes in) and several reeds to your lesson each week. You also need to make sure you schedule practice time in the practice rooms as well. I expect at least 10 hours a week for education majors and 15 hours a week for performance majors. I know college is a busy time, but this is the main reason you are here.

Grading:

Your final grade is dependent on attendance (lesson, recital, and studio class), lesson performance and preparation, overall improvement, and recital and jury performances.

Repertoire, Etudes and Scales:

The repertoire list provided below is merely a sample of available materials appropriate to specific grade levels. Literature of a comparable difficulty may be substituted. The specific scale requirements are goals for the end of each specified school year. All scales should be performed over the full range of the horn, memorized and with varied articulation.
