Tau Delta Kappa Constitution
Preamble
We, the members of Tau Delta Kappa, seek to integrate our faith in Christ with all areas of our lives in order to develop our fullest potential as students and Christians.
Our highest aim is to honor God through our:

In this pursuit of excellence we hereby adopt this constitution for our organization.
Article A Organization Name
The name of this organization is Tau Delta Kappa, and may be referred to by either the Greek or English letters, TDK or TDK.
Article B Motto
Our motto is “Honor, Service, Fellowship.” The motto shall be taken from the words represented by our Greek letters: Timao, Diakonia, and Koinonia.
Article G Goals
The goals of TAU DELTA KAPPA are to:
- help students in the honors program meet and get to know members of other honors classes
- support first year honors students in their academic pursuits
- encourage thought and consideration in each student’s studies
- provide Christ-honoring opportunities for entertainment and social interaction
- encourage students to consider the values promoted in their activities
Article D Membership
Each of the members of TAU DELTA KAPPA must be one of the following:
- current member of the Cedarville University Honors Program
- past member of the Honors Program at Cedarville University
NOTE: Past members of the Honors Program must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- student awarded honorary membership as described in Article E.
Article E Honorary Membership
Section a Qualifications for Membership
Nominees will be considered on the basis of demonstrated
- Service rendered to the organization
- Commitment to the ideals of the organization
Section b Nomination Process
Students may become honorary members by the following process:
- Nomination by a current member or members, using the appropriate form
- Review and approval of the candidate by the Leadership Council
- Review and approval of the candidate by the membership
NOTE: Two thirds of the membership must approve the candidate.
Honorary Members may not constitute more than one third of the regular membership of the organization.
Article Z Alumni
Students who are members in their Senior year may remain members until their deaths or the Second Coming of Christ, whichever occurs first.
Article H Discipline/Dismissal
Students who are unable to continue in the Honors Program due to academic lassitude or failure are no longer eligible for membership in TAU DELTA KAPPA. Students who have paid their dues in advance may receive a pro rated refund upon request.
Article Q Leadership
Leadership of the organization is on a volunteer basis. Prospective leaders must be students currently enrolled in the honors program and in good standing. If there are multiple candidates, they must fill out an application. They must have been a member of Tau Delta Kappa for at least one quarter previous to their leadership position. Current council members will consider applicants for future positions.
The number of council members is subject to change but should be at least four, but no more than one fifth of the total membership. Duties of the Leadership Council are as follows:
Section a Chair
The chair is chosen based on availability and willingness. Should there be more than one member available for the position, the current President will make a final decision based on council input, application information, and an interview. The president may delegate duties to other members, but must see to communication with the advisor, the organization’s calendar, finances, and attendance at President’s Council Meetings sponsored by S.G.A. The president must also plan the meeting itinerary and make sure that minutes are taken at meetings.
Section b Leadership Council Members
Council members are responsible for planning, communicating, and carrying out the plans for events or other organizational activities they choose to take on. They are required to attend planning meetings with the advisor and/or other council members every other week as necessary, to keep each other updated on current plans, and to gain new information about upcoming events. Between meetings, council members are to keep the other council members and the advisor up to date on any new considerations via email.
Council members have access to the TDK GroupWise email account and are expected to use that access responsibly to update other members about upcoming events
Section g Additional Duties
All members share the responsibilities of leadership. One member serves as Chair. All members may take on specific responsibilities as needed, but further official positions are not designated because our emphasis is on flexibility and cooperation.
Article I Funds
Section a
Dues are $6 per semester and $10 for a full year. The discount for yearly membership is only effective if dues are paid within the first three weeks of the academic year, although the Leadership Council may make exceptions. New members who take advantage of the discount on yearly dues are also entitled to a free t-shirt. Dues may be changed by a unanimous vote of all council members and with the approval of the advisor.

Funds may also be raised through fundraisers, armed robberies, counterfeit enterprises, and various other larcenous activities with the approval of the advisor J
Article K Events
Section a Scheduling of Events
A proposal of events for each academic year (or at least the fall semester calendar) should be in place by the end of the preceding spring semester and should be announced for membership consideration before the summer break begins. Dates for fall semester events should be set over the summer and planning should commence no later than the beginning of the academic year.
Section b Event Planning Responsibilities
Subsection A Leadership Council Members
Events are to be planned and directed by a council member. He or she is expected to complete both the CAO (if the event is on-campus) and TDK event planning forms at least four weeks in advance whenever possible. The council member responsible for each event is chosen at the council meetings. Planning meetings for leadership council members are required for council members only.
Subsection B Members
Members may be involved in event planning to whatever extent they wish.
Subsection G Advisor
The advisor should be informed of progress and any new developments following his/her initial approval.
Section G Semester Event Guidelines
Each semester the Leadership Council should attempt to offer the following activities:
- A cultural outing open to the public (play, symphony, Renaissance festival, museum visit, etc.)
- Two social events (midterm survival party, off-campus movie night, un-birthday party, finals stressbuster, etc.)
- A service activity (30 Hour Famine, forum, panel discussion, etc.)
During fall semester, one event must be held during Getting Started week or the first two weeks of the semester to introduce freshman honors students to members of the other honors classes. Notice of this event, application forms, and dues/membership information should be sent at the beginning of the school year to all previous members of TDK and to all current Honors Program members.
Section D Event Pricing and Discounts
Events fall under three categories:
- Free & open to the public
- On-campus (open to members/guests)
Guests will be charged a cover fee.
- Off-campus (open to members/guests)
TDK provides transportation, and a discount may be given to members.
Attendance policies (availability to non-members) and event pricing will be announced with each event.
Article L Recruitment
Because of the limited membership of TAU DELTA KAPPA to past and present Honors Program students, recruitment will focus each year on the incoming class of honors students. With the permission of the TDK advisor and the head of the Honors Program, the Leadership Council and interested members of TDK may present information about TDK at the orientation for new Honors Program students during “Getting Started” week.
Article M Availability of the Constitution
The constitution must be available for the review of all members of the organization. It will be posted on the organization’s website, and an email informing constituents of its presence shall be posted at the beginning of each academic term as well as if any changes are made.
Article N Constitutional Amendment
The leadership council may make amendments to the constitution by a unanimous decision. All decisions and amendments are subject to advisor revision and approval. Amendments must be made available for the review of the membership. If TAU DELTA KAPPA members disapprove by a margin of more than one half the membership, the amendment is revoked.
