Charles Clevenger,
visual artist

Painting is my other vocation. Strange, but in some parts of the country they know me as “Chuck Clevenger, the painter,” and are surprised to learn that I play the piano. I’d describe my style as “representational,” by which I mean that 1) you can tell what the subject is, and 2) that, while I paint realistically, I do a lot of editing, adjusting, and manipulating of the palette and the composition, to get the shapes and tones that I’m after. In my work, look for the way the light strikes things; that’s what excites me, and why my subject matter is so eclectic. To paraphrase Shakespeare, for me “the light’s the thing.” You can see my work, along with my Dad’s photography, at our commercial website,
