Charles Clevenger, pianist

Known for his brilliant sound, the tasteful effectiveness of his interpretation, his easy manner at the piano, and his engaging interaction with audiences, Charles Clevenger effectively combines the roles of scholar, musician, visual artist, and entertainer. An active concert pianist, lecturer, and contest adjudicator, the artist also holds a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music.

In addition to his musical career, Dr. Clevenger is an avid painter who studied watercolor with I.D. Washington and Darrell Koons. Primarily a location painter, Clevenger’s work is characterized by an immediacy and a sense of place only obtainable by “being there.” His transparent watercolors are noted for their crisp whites, virtuoso brushwork, and convincing use of the light. His works hang in numerous private, public, corporate, and collegiate collections. Clevenger’s favorite visual subjects are character studies of people and images drawn from his travels around the world. Chuck’s work may be viewed on his website, www.clevengerstudios.com . His first love, however, is the piano, and his greatest satisfaction comes from performing for appreciative listeners of all ages.

Dr. Clevenger has served on the faculty of Cedarville University for 23 years, where he is a full professor in the Department of Music and Art. In 2002 he was elected Faculty Member of the Year by the student body. He resides in Cedarville, Ohio with his wife Rhonda and daughter Courtenay.
