Training: A Unique Approach

When you come to Cedarville for a degree in keyboard pedagogy, you're in for some pleasant surprises. First, every pedagogy major is a performer, and your audition is the same as for our performance majors. In fact, many of our piano students double-major in performance and pedagogy. For us to equip you to teach advanced students, we want you to be an advanced pianist.

Next, you'll be teaching the piano long before you graduate. Apprenticeship is the key to our approach and to your success. You'll teach under the wing of a master teacher, learning how to diagnose a student's needs and how to match your teaching to his or her style. This master-and-apprenticeship appraoch makes our pedagogy program unique. And it's faithful to the principle of II Timothy 2:2, "And the things you have heard from me... commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."
